Fun in the dough!

RRH made play dough aliens, some of them were really scary with lots of arms and legs!

Strange happenings!

Our Reception garden had some visitors yesterday. We had a spaceship crash landed in our mud area! The children were really excited to receive a letter from the alien, Orson. He has taken our class teddy and set us some challenges to complete so we can get him back! The children have all got a rocket stamp sheet where they can collect 8 stamps when they have done the challenges. Then we will send them off to Orson and get our teddy back!

Heavier or lighter?

In RRH we have been using bucket scales to weigh objects in our classroom. We have been using words such as heavier, lighter and balancing. We have been searching the classroom for objects that weigh the same to make the scales balance. The children enjoyed weighing the secret alien packages and experimenting with different sized numicon shapes to find out which number tile was hiding inside!

What A Star!

We are pleased to finally announce that our Nativity DVD is available to buy. It is £2 per DVD, your child has been given an order form.

Did you know...

RRH have been reading information books about the moon this week. We found out that it takes around 4 days to get to the moon from planet Earth and when you get there there won't be any air to breathe. That is why astronauts wear spacesuits! We also found out that nothing lives on the moon, there isn't any water. So trees, grass and plants cannot grow. Can your child remember anything else we have talked about?

Take away...

We have been thinking about taking away. We have used our fingers to help us take one away, then two. RRH have sung songs such as "Alice the Camel" and "5 little ducks"
The children have really enjoyed singing 5 little men in a flying saucer, can your child remember the words? Whoooooosshh!

Whatever Next...

After reading the story 'Whatever Next' the children in RRH were really excited that we had a rocket in our classroom! (a cardboard box - just like in the story!) They enjoyed acting out the story, using all of the props - even an owl!

In the story Baby Bear uses household items to fly to the moon, his wellies are Space Boots, a colinder is his space helmet and the cardboard box is the rocket. Baby Bear takes his teddy with him for the journey to the moon. Can your child remember who they meet on their way?

Here is a clue - 'Twit-twoo'...

Is anybody out there...

This term Reception are beginning to think about Space and Aliens. We are going to be talking about what the children already know about Space. We will be reading stories such  as 'Aliens Love Underpants' and 'Whatever Next'.
