Vets in practice

We have had a caring day in RRH today, we opened our vets. It was lovely to see the children pretending to make the animals better.

Our new friends

We had some new arrivals in RRH this morning, some caterpillars have moved in!
They are in our classroom so we can closely watch the changes they go through to become butterflies. Lots of the children remembered the life cycle of a caterpillar from when we read the Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.
They have been a popular addition to our classroom today, with the children enjoying watching them move around.

We will be keeping a close eye on them over the next few days.

Wild Boar Park

We had a great day at the Wild Boar Park today, despite the afternoon shower. We set off on the coach and soon we spotted the sign for the Wild Boar Park.

When we got there our first job was to feed the lambs - they were very hungry because they had been waiting for us to get there! Even Mrs Turpin had a go, the lambs were very jiggly!

Next we went to see the chicks, we could hear them chirping before we could see them! We all got one each to hold but some chicks were lively and hopped onto other children's knees! Miss Alladice held lots and lots of chicks!

We got to have a play in the bails of hay! Through the tunnel was a maze!

Our next job was to go and feed the wild boar. The farmer took us on a trail around the pens and we saw some pigs and wallabies. We then stopped off at a chicken coop where we got to hold some freshly laid eggs!

We saw some wooden animals that had been carved out of trees!

We were hungry and ready for a rest after our busy morning so we had our dinner on picnic benches.

Then it was time for the eagerly anticipated tractor ride - it was very bumpy.

The llamas were hungry by this time, so we got some special food pellets, put them on our hands and fed the animals. Lots of children were very brave, it tickled a lot.

There was just enough time left for a quick play on the park before we headed back to school.

The coach was much quieter on the way back, wonder why...

Really impressive readers!

Miss Holland was very proud this afternoon as some children were reading really tricky words!

Magic potion!

In RRH today we were talking about how important it is to wash our hands thoroughly, especially with our trip tomorrow where we will be handling animals. We used the special gel to rub into our hands, it then glowed under UV light.
The children then washed their hands and had another look - it was interesting to see lots of hands still showing the gel! It took us a few attempts to wash off, but it was a really good way to show the children that just wetting their hands doesn't wash all the germs off!

Wild Boar Park

Tomorrow we will be leaving for the wild boar park at 9am. We will be having our lunch there and returning in time for home time. The children who normally bring a packed lunch will need to bring their lunch in a plastic bag so that we can throw it away once it is finished with, no plastic bottles/spoons please! We're all looking forward to an exciting day out!!

RRH made Easter nests as an end of term treat. The classroom smelled delicious!

Easter bonnets and ties

Today was the Easter parade, where children who had made a bonnet or tie had the chance to win an Easter egg! Here are the children from RRH with their bonnets and ties.

Poetry competition!

On Wednesday Thames held poetry competition. It was great fun for everyone and we really enjoyed listening to the beautiful poems all of the boys and girls had been learning. Here are the children from RRH performing their poems. (the videos may not play on mobile devices/ipads)

Poetry Competition

Reception children have the chance to perform a poem in front of all of their friends in our KS1 poetry competition on Wednesday 9th April. The children have all taken a poem sheet home with some example poems on to learn. Your child can practice a different poem if they want to, it doesn't have to be one from the sheet.
Heats will be held in RRH and RKB to decide on 3 children to represent their class in the competition. It will then be judged by our helpers Mr and Mrs Turpin (who listens to readers in RRH) and Mrs Allison.
Happy practising!

Super sentences!

Some children in RRH were rearranging jumbled up sentences. It was really tricky but we concentrated hard and made some super sentences.
