Ahoy there...

RRH have got pirate fever this week, we have been making treasure maps. We just ripped the edges off normal paper to make the paper look old, then used a tea bag to colour it.

We waited for them to dry and then drew on them. We thought carefully about what we needed to put on them, including the all important X marks the spot!

Time to measure...

We have been learning about measuring in RRH this week. We talked about different ways to measure and measured parts of our bodies. We then recorded our findings on body templates.

Toy Shop

After half term RRH will have a toy shop in our role play area. The children will be using the numicon tiles to pay for toys!

Friday Fun Time

We went down to the children's centre this week to use the sensory room! The children loved it, here are a few pictures from inside.

Chinese New Year

The children have been learning about Chinese New Year this week. We looked at a map to find out where China is, and talked about where our country is. We also watched a Chinese family prepare for Chinese New Year - did you know it is customary to clean the house from top to bottom to get rid of any bad luck from the previous year and welcome good luck. The children enjoyed watching New Year parades, and looking at the dragons dance. There are lots of videos on you tube if you search for dragon dance. The children made dancing dragon puppets!

After watching a celebration the children decided they would like to make some Chinese lanterns, so I got some yellow and red (Chinese lucky colour!) paper and glitter and the children got busy making some lovely lanterns.
We looked at Chinese writing, because they use symbols instead of letters. Some children wanted to try painting some Chinese symbols.

We finished off our Chinese week with a party, where the children were able to try different Chinese foods. We had spring rolls, prawn crackers, fried rice and noodles. We also had sweet chilli sauce but not everyone was keen to try it! We had found out that Chinese people do not use a knife and fork to eat so some children were excited to use chopsticks to eat their food. It was tricky but some could do it!

Planting in our playground

Some of you may have noticed that our KS1 playground now has plants and herbs growing in it. The children in reception were asked by Red Rose Forest to help plant some herbs. They enjoyed helping prepare the soil, plant the herbs and smelling them of course! They were each given some gardening gloves to wear, and braved the cold weather to help.

Safer Internet Day!

Today is Safer internet day! We have been thinking about how we can stay safe online! The main point was to always ask an adult if you're unsure. We learnt a song and met E-Safety man! E-Safety man told us some important things we can remember for when we are older - like not talking to strangers or giving out personal information online!

These are the words to the song:

"Before you click, click, click, you gotta think, think, think and TELL SOMEONE!"

This is the website we looked at to find out information for Safer Internet Day

Milky way smoothies!

RRH made Milky Way smoothies today during Friday fun time! We added the ingredients - Milky Way (of course!) milk, and chocolate ice cream. Then we blended it all together - the children really enjoyed this part, it made some of us jump at first! It tasted delicious!
